The Needs of Kids Yoga

Due to social and academic high expectations, busy parents, sports competitions, children nowadays live in a hurry-up world, and feel anxious and stressed.

  • In the US, 36% of the teenagers feel stressed and thus tired, said NBC news.

  • Children as young as 4 or 5 can show generalised anxiety disorders, according to Elizabeth Green, an Australian pediatrician.

  • Children aged 8 -17 suffer from headaches, sleeplessness and upset stomachs - said American Psychological Association, 2017

Yoga for kids can help students release some stress and feel more joy in their life.

As children learn how to relax, concentrate and be gentle in a fun, creative and non-competitive environment, they are also introduced to a healthier lifestyle.

It can also be an option for children who shy away from physical activity or group activities for fear of failure.

While doing yoga, children exercise, play, connect with the inner self, others and the world that surrounds them.

Yoga promotes physical strength and flexibility because kids learn how to use muscles in new ways. Yoga teaches kids to persevere, be patient and work toward their goals.

The act of practicing poses encourages children to clear their mind and focus on the effort. As a result, yoga helps children to focus and concentrate in school and get better grades.

Yoga provides different growth opportunities as children grow:

  • For toddlers, yoga helps building body awareness.

  • For school-age children, it nurtures growth and improves balance and focus.

  • For pre-teens and teens, yoga strengthens hearts, minds and bodies to build self-esteem and confidence
